2022 Blue Mountains World Kangaroo Day Event




In 2022, the Blue Mountains World Kangaroo Day Event was held in the Ballroom on Monday, 24th of October at the Carrington Hotel in Katoomba.
This event consisted of three screenings of the Kangaroos: A Love Hate Story documentry followed by talks and Q & A.
The morning session from 10am to 12:45pm, had talks by wildlife rescuers and carers after the first screening of the documentary.
The afternoon session from 2pm to 5:30pm, had youtube films from Aboriginal elders talking about care of country and other talkers
talking about the Yuin Declaration, after the second screening of the documentary.
The evening session from 6pm to 10pm, had talkers speaking about about reality of how badly kangaroos are treated in Australia,
after the third and final screening of the documentary.




Aims of the 2022 Blue Mountains World Kangaroo Day Event


The Blue Mountains World Kangaroo Day Event has four aims

1. it is an educational seminar that aims to inform the public of the
Cruelty inflicted on our national icon and to find ways of protecting them.

2. it is also a celebration of the magnificence of these highly evolved sentient beings.

3. it is a chance to show support to unpaid rescuers and carers of kangaroos,
some of whom are struggling to survive.







Speakers talking on the Day


Greg Keightley is a registered wildlife carer and rescuer with many years experience in the rehabilitation of Kangaroos.


Associate Professor David Brooks is a Professor at University of Sydney in Australian literature and a Poet.


Dr Teja Pribact has a PhD in animal emotions.


Elizabeth Ellis is an Honorary Senior Fellow in Animal Law at the University of Woolongong.
